The experiences with Key Action 1 so far have been perceived as very positive by all participants. In addition to the purely technical experiences and the expansion of competences, the social and cultural experiences were also praised again and again and highlighted as particularly beneficial. There was always an open, friendly and cooperative atmosphere during the courses attended. Especially the exchange between colleagues about teaching experiences in different school systems proved to be extremely enriching. We wanted to successfully continue these very positive experiences in the completed project and additionally expand them through a well-chosen number of job shadowings. The newly acquired knowledge was to be profitably passed on to the teaching staff as well as to the pupils. We achieved the hoped-for goals to a large extent, although unfortunately we were not able to carry out all mobilities to the desired extent.
KBS Mainz has been in a merger process since 1 August 2016. By the end of the school year in summer 2019, the organisational merger of two previously separate schools could be considered largely complete. With the merger, great inequalities in digital teaching provision have come to light here. The need to catch up in terms of equipment and qualifications was very great. After careful consideration, the school management decided to develop a new media concept for the merged schools. This was started in the 2019 school year. Discussions on content were then held in all educational pathway conferences. The extent and type of equipment required was determined by the outcome of these discussions. The declared goal is that more and more learning opportunities will gradually include new media or information and communication technologies as a matter of course. Lessons should be designed to be more activating and motivating with the growing inclusion of digital media. Learning processes benefit from increasing individualisation with the help of digital tools, learning yields can be increased as a result, which also has a synergetic effect on the prevention of early school dropouts. In addition, the desired diversity of methods will be helpful in the design of lessons. In order to pursue and achieve the goals presented, the further qualification of our teachers is indispensable. The colleagues who are sufficiently qualified to integrate new media meaningfully into the lessons are currently still a large minority in our teaching staff. It is necessary to offer all teachers access to a comprehensive range of qualifications, also at European level. Through the contacts established within the framework of Erasmus+, we have exchanged with partner schools in Finland, Italy and Spain and should gain further valuable experience in the area of European cooperation. We want to develop further and become more competent in the use of ICT by participating in qualification offers of the Teacher Academy and in cooperation with other schools.
