Objectives

The specific approach to the promotion of gifted students at the Deutschhaus-Gymnasium does not use the possible acceleration through the promotion of gifted students to shorten the duration of learning at school, but to efficiently design enrichment offers to promote particularly gifted students. This is where project teaching and opening up to social engagement take on special significance. This also means developing an immediate response to changes in society and politics through active engagement. Teaching this special group of students in an internally differentiated way and expanding these methods for regular school students requires strengthening the sense of responsibility of those involved. Thus, the project should react flexibly to the current developments. This meant setting new priorities in the course of time in order to win the students over to active action beyond the framework of the classroom. In the process, foundations were also strengthened that are already bearing fruit in a follow-up project at the school and will produce further results in the school year that has just begun. From a broader perspective, the school strived to deepen the pedagogical and didactic concepts of gifted education.

Background

The Deutschhaus-Gymnasium is a competence center for the promotion of gifted students in the administrative district of Lower Franconia. The school thus has a special responsibility for school and teaching development far beyond its own building. This means the necessity to take up European developments in society and especially to gain experience in the European context. A broad networking with partner institutions in Germany and abroad has been promoting the school's innovation process for years and makes the establishment of the competence center a logical step. e. The school sees in the European networking of innovative schools a fruitful way, moreover, to spread and strengthen the awareness of the values of Europe and European unification in the institutions of the network and the schools in the administrative district of Lower Franconia. At the time of the application, the upheavals caused by the pandemic were not yet known. However, the development has confirmed the necessity of the student-activating method developments aimed at by the school. Among these experiences, the need for European exchange is particularly relevant.
