Our project’s central goal was to set the groundwork for developing and executing international projects at our school. We needed to be able to give our colleagues the necessary tools to start international collaborations with other schools making interdisciplinary projects at a European level possible. Therefore, the acquisition of project management skills as well as the strengthening of intercultural competence were pivotal elements for success. By attending international workshops, our participants were supposed to build first international connections that could be further developed into real projects. Lastly, we saw the prospect of working “international” a great way to motivate not only participating colleagues, but the whole school to elevate our school on the next level.
Right before we came up with the idea of implementing Erasms+ at our school, we didn’t have many experiences in this field of expertise. Fortunately we had one colleague who had gained knowledge with Comenius. The main reason for starting our project was the wish to make our school more international. We wanted to develop our school’s profile by enhancing the teacher’s and student’s intercultural competence as well as giving the “European idea” more room at our school, thus establishing our school as an open and international place for learning in our district. As there were almost no international projects at our school and with little to no experience in organizing and executing them, our primary focus laid on the acquisition of the necessary tools in project management to realize the aforementioned internationalization of our school.
