Project summary

The project will be implemented with 6 partners. How this project idea came up is that, we are living in the “modern age”, everything goes very fast, there is no time for the common things in live and so also no time for reading generally. Children come to school in the first grade with about 6 years and most of them don’t really had a contact with books and could not develope love for reading. With the time throughout their education they dont read, they dont write and think and so it comes that they can’t really express themselves and their vocabulary is very poor. Reading on storytelling is a creative way and it can change this. If we show students that reading can be interesting and funny, we will make them courious and they will start reading. Moreover,it is very fun for kids to adapt a good fairy tale. Fairy tales pass from hearth to hearth. They express deep truths about human history and nature. Children and also adults love fairy tales when they are told in a different perspectives. Good fairy tales have become a world’s cultural heritage instead of a country’s cultural heritage. Additionally,it is observed that when in class a subject is performed with fairy tales,it is %90 understood easily and is permanent. When the subject is taught with traditional methods, it is easily forgotten. Learning behind cultural borders means also to know something about our neighbors. So we think it is a big chance for learning to look over borders. Especially the theme-fairy tales-is a subject, where nearly every child can be part of and it is very motivating. We think, it is a big chance for teaching and learning, to let grow the motivation for learning, to open the view on living,to improve our competences and to boost school development. Objectives of our project are; *we aim to increase the academic success of students *To develop critical thinking *we aim to over the problematic behaviours of children *to improve the reading ability *to increase the vocabulary in the mother tongue *in order to grasp the importance of cultural heritage of societies and to protect it and to transfer them to generation to generation *for the self-development of teachers, so that they can learn new methods and apply them in their lessons *in order to exchange good practices in the partner country schools and disseminate on the returning back to school *in order to recognise and respect different cultures, countries and people *to create an oppurtunity for students who don’t have a chance to go abroad. *to support foreign language learning *in order to apply the activities which will improve students’ expressing themselves and improve self confidence *in order to plan and apply activities which will increase students’ school success Totally we will have 75 pupils and 65 teachers mobilities within 6 partners. One LTT will be for staff training in Portugal and five LTTs will be for pupils. We expect to effect 13000 people from our project. Concrete results of our project will be; e-book,Project calender, web-site,facebook, questionnaire results, exhibition, bulletin, notice board, pictures The common point in this project is getting the students to read and love what they do. Through different activities like storytelling , playing theatre rolls, making their own stories they will develope many skills like understandig their culture and the culture of other coutries, they can better determine what is right or wrong, they develope critical thinking and the most imprtant of all, all the activities make fun an the students feel free and happy. The involved schools’ academical success will increase. Because problematic behaviours seen at schools will lower and wanted behaviours will develop among students. Their communication skills will develop and the permanency of learning will be provided. The cooperation between teachers will increase and they will be motivated. Peace and trust environment will be formed in schools. Parents’ point of view to schools will improve positively. Additionally, it will enrich their knowledge, especially at the exchange of stories. Also, children are very interested in children from other countries so we could easily set up communication through internet or writing to each other. As Albert Einstein said “If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”

Final report summary

Our project started in November 2019 with partners from Turkey, Great Britain, Croatia, Slovenia, Portugal and Germany. We´ve got in contact by mail and by whats app. And we started with our first travel to Turkey. After the first LTT to Turkey we planed `monthly tasks´ to which all schools should devote themselves and to be shown on the website. This is being used as dissemination tool. (https://erasmustellastory.wixsite.com/site). And we continued partner meetings (online) very regular. Until the epidemic Covid-19, everything was going on as it was planned in the project. With this epidemic, we couldn’t make LTT2 to Germany mobility – even everything was planed and also the local activities starting from March 2020, which were to be done at school with students. Schools in Germany and in other countries were closed for several times. Or they had only part time lessons on the main subjects. In the other countries it was nearly the same or schools were closed even longer. We (German coordinator) requested extension for our project until April 30th, 2022 and it was given to us. At last we had several online meetings during epidemic time with partners and agreed to wait and see the situation of the epidemic and then probably to continue the mobilities by the end of January 2021. The mobilities and local activities will be re-scheduled after the situation for epidemic is better. But epedemich situation went on and so our next LTT could start in October 2021 to Croatia. Children were not allowed to travel so it was a short-term training course for employees. So it was on our LTT to Germany in December 2021. Followed by the LTT to Slovenia in March 2022 – with children. But recognising time will be to short we ask again for a extension till 30th of October 2022 and it was given to us. Our last LTT tot he UK could take place with children in May 2022. We have been very glad that we could do all the LTTs! Activities at school during the project: We announced and presented the project details to students, teachers and parents. Under the theme `fairy tales from past to now´ we evaluated and discussed fairy tales from the past to now. How they have changed during the passing time? A project notice board has been installed. Every school prepared a notice board where the activities and their results are published for school comunitiy. We drew fairy tale pictures in the classes. We examined `Maths stories´ – We researched together with several classes and found a lot of mathematic pieces in fairy tales – for exmaple ìn ` the wolf and the seven goats´. We developed a project logo – Children at all school created several logos and voted for one for their school. Then we had a voting of all schools and found a project logo out oft he six proposals oft he schools. A value dice was created. We made dice about the values. Values were tolerance/emphaty, respect, justice, responsibility, love, solidarity. Values were written on the die's sides and when the pupil threw it, they made up a story about that value. Using their own creativity. Project bulletins for publishing project and results were created. Reading with grannies and grandads and talk about elder fairy tales was part of the project just like a fairy tale presentation – After reading fairy tales or books children presentate about their stories. They do this in different ways. Science fairy tales – Could you imagine? – How would a fairy tale be in space? – Let your fanasty flow…We researched about national fairy tales writers – Get to know famous national fairy tale writers. Got in contact with writers of fairy tales or books for children. Asking them how they get their ideas and a lot more. Telling stories in different ways for example building puppets and tell by a shadow play. A trip to the library showed us – So many books….some of them are wellknown, a lot are here to get to know. Finding fairy tales we never heard before. Reading books with family and explore: Does your family read? What do you read at home? What fairy tales are read? Who reads to whom? Being an author - students writing startings and endings of stories – Let your fantasie flow. Not only when reading, but also when writing beginnings or endings, the children can explore fairy tales and let their imagination run wild. Creating a project newspaper, the children reflect on what they have learned and experienced and communicate it to the school community. All partners tried to do their very best do work on the activities as far as possible during pandemic situation. Aktivities during LTTs During the trips to the partner countries, many different activities were carried out. There is not enough space to describe them in detail. In addition to getting to know the respective culture, a variety of workshops were offered in all countries, which gave us deep insights into various methods in dealing with fairy tales. For all involved, it was a great gain in knowledge and implementation in practice.
