Project summary

The school partnership "Learning Beyond Reality" (twitter #LEBERE) is a crossover between the technologies Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Greenscreen-Technology and Gamification. The focus is on the question of how these technologies can be used in a meaningful way for teaching and learning in schools. 5 schools are dedicated to this question: The coordinating school is the Rennbuckel-Realschule from Karlsruhe (Germany). Also involved are: Lentiz | Reviuslycum (Netherlands), Primary school Bistrica ob Sotli (Slovenia), Liceo scientifico A. Righi Cesena (Italy) and Muuramen lukio (Finland). All schools have in common that they implement digital learning intensively. 4 out of 5 schools even have 1:1 Bring Your Own iPad classes. What unites us is a look into the future: We want to change schools. We want to revolutionize teaching. We want to rethink learning and teaching. For this reason, a total of 16 teachers from 5 countries will be on their way from November 2019. Our journey begins in Holland, where we want to explore the possibilities and opportunities of Augmented Reality in the classroom. In spring 2020 we will visit Slovenia and take a look at the greenscreen technology. In October 2020 we will visit the Finnish school, which already has great expertise in Virtual Reality. With this know-how in our luggage, we will hold a Mobile Learning Conference with the title "Learning Beyond Reality" in Karlsruhe, Germany for the first time in February 2021 and expect more than 120 participants. There, in workshops and keynotes, we will make our collective teaching experience and knowledge available to the general public. At the same time, our learning process and our output can be followed on www.learning-beyond-reality.eu and on the YouTube channel of the same name. You can also tweet under the Hashtag #LEBERE. We look forward to a project, which leaves space and time for the Hospitation of instruction hours as well as the guidance in the respective schools. Where else can you learn the most for your own school and lesson development? Since this project is exclusively about didactics and methodology, there are no school children planned as participants. Rather, we regard the project as a joint further education for teachers from all over Europe. Even if it sometimes seems that Europe would fall apart - here in this project we are united: we ask the same questions, we strive for the same goals. Only our cultures and school conditions make the implementation look diverse. But that is precisely where the tension, the challenge, the joy of Europe lies. Final report summary

The school partnership "Learning Beyond Reality" (twitter #LEBERE) deals with the technologies augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), green screen technology and gamification. All project results, the scientific texts written, the teaching examples and explanatory videos as well as an introduction to the project members can be found at www.learningbeyondreality.com. Our work has always focused on the question: How can these technologies be used in a meaningful way for teaching and learning in schools? The coordinating school is the Realschule am Rennbuckel from Karlsruhe (Germany). Also participating are: the Secondary School Lentiz | Reviuslycum (Netherlands), Primary School Bistrica ob Sotli (Slovenia) and the Science Gymnasium Liceo scientifico A. Righi Cesena (Italy). All schools have in common that they are already intensively implementing digital learning and have already been awarded for it in their respective countries. However, the focus is very different, which has clearly led to better project results, all of which can be viewed at www.learningbeyondreality.com. Our first project meeting (29.03.20 - 03.04.20) was at Lentiz School, Maassluis, Netherlands. The focus was on finding successful teaching examples and learning settings that already use the technologies Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. As an interim result, we present the 9 best augmented reality apps for us in the form of videos and handouts to follow on the website. In addition, we introduce the technology and functionality of augmented reality on the website and highlight the didactic potential for the school context. After a longer Corona pandemic break, we met for the second meeting at our partner school in Slovenia (Osnovna Šola, Bistrica ob Sotli) from 28/03/22 - 01/04/22. This school has its expertise in the use of green screen technology, which is why we have devoted more time to this topic and are now bringing it closer to the readers on the website and encouraging them to simply try it out and copy it. We also began to look at the characteristics of gamified learning situations. Originally planned as a venue for a "Mobile Learning Conference", we had to change our plans due to Corona. As guests of the project leading school, the Realschule am Rennbuckel, Karlsruhe, Germany, from 30.05.22 - 03.06.22 we had our 3rd meeting and the content was intensive. In one week, we produced a scientific text on immersive learning as well as a didactic model on immersive learning, which can be used in teacher training courses from now on. We also visited the "Learntec", Germany's largest trade fair for mobile learning, learning nuggets, gamification, virtual reality and e-learning, and drew conclusions for our project work. In addition, we worked closely with the media education department of the Karlsruhe University of Education and the 3-D Experience project of the ZSL Baden-Württemberg (Centre for School Quality and Teacher Training) during this week. Our 4th and final meeting took place in Cesena, Italy from 27.06.22 - 01.07.22. The aim of the week in Italy was to finish all open project work and to update our website with all our results. The main focus of this week, however, was the development of a didactic model for the field of gamification, which we are very proud of, because in our eyes it can bring an important step forward in teacher training. You can also find this model at www.learningbeyondreality.com. Throughout the project, our previous results from past Erasmus projects (the iPAC Framework and the Accelerated Learning Cycle) were intensively incorporated. Not only in terms of corporate design, but also structurally, we have never left the didactic path of mobile learning since 2016. Since 2015, a media-pedagogical toolbox has emerged that methodically and didactically takes up almost all current technologies and provides suitable models and teaching examples. We are convinced that there is currently no comparable training curriculum in Europe that is as coherent and compact as the one on our website. But read for yourself...
