Migration is a major political topic in the European Union. There is a discussion about migration policies. Spain, Hungary and Germany have different opinions about how to handle immigration to their countries. Many questions have not been solved yet e.g. immigrants keep on dying in the Mediterranean Sea, the Dublin Regulation fails. Also to our students, migration is an important topic. Not only one with which they are confronted in the media, their every day life is also affected. The students are surrounded by a constantly changing society. They live in a multicultural and multi faith society in Europe. Some have family members who have emigrated or immigrated, there are refugees at their school, foreign students are in their class. Time to look at the different aspects of migration in the three countries in order to create a spirit of openness and a European identity. Need: Since 2016 an intensive German class exists at the Alfred-Wegener-Schule. Immigrants receive up to two years intensive German lessons until they start to go into the regular classes. It shows that at our school, the immigrants are not well integrated into the school community. Aims: 1) To increase knowledge about migration in the EU. 2) The students should discover that in history countries can change from societies of emigrants to societies of immigrants. 3) Broaden awareness and compassion of migration by getting to know immigrants. Projects: 1) Working together with institutions such as the Philipps-Universität Marburg to gain important information about migration in the EU. 2) We visit museums in the three countries in order to understand the history of migration. 3) The students interview immigrants in the three nations and ask them about their reasons to leave their home country and try to find out which problems they had/have to confront. 4) The students come up with ideas on how to improve the relations o the German students to their intensive German class. (cooking, music, doing sports together, to introduce a buddy-system) Evaluation: 1) The students write summaries on the information collected in the institutions and will create material for the Social Science classes at their schools. 2) The students document the visits to the museums e.g with videos. 3) The students record interviews and put them afterwards together in a podcast that they publish in the open radio station in Marburg (Radio Unerhört). In general Students will: - Develop a positive attitude towards the inclusion of immigrants and in particular towards the new students who arrive to their county - Analyse the situation of immigrants in their own city, in their country and at least in the countries of the project. - Know other ways of acting in the schools of the countries of the project referred to the inclusion of students. - Learn to share their work, results and alternative ideas for the same project - Acquire a culture in the field of immigration in the countries of the project and in their own - Use tics tools that allow the transmission of information and the use of virtual mobilities - Share experiences that are above the language barrier - Work for the acquisition of key competences, to a greater extent, linguistic, digital, social and civic competence and awareness and cultural expressions. - Know other European countries, their culture and society - Deepen what it means to be a European citizen and an active citizen Teachers will: - Share knowledge, learning experiences, prepare new materials and innovation projects. - Overcoming language barriers to help transmit European culture - Provide meaningful learning to students - Work in a team for the resolution of conflicts - Develop a relationship between partners, local authorities and institutions that will be part of the project. Families will: - Contribute actively to the transmission of culture and knowledge. - Offer the children the possibility of an active exchange that allows them to grow as a person and at the same time provide them with culture - Collaborate with the centers and participate actively in those tasks that are requested - Contribute their experience in the field of immigration To the partners: - It will allow them to produce a series of final products that can continue to be applied in their centers in the future. - A project blog - A project logo - A series of information on the topics that have been discussed throughout the project: History of immigration in the countries, position of their governments, effects of immigration, role of women in immigration, legislation regarding the rights of the immigrants, - Guide or protocol to follow when a new student arrives at the center - Cooperative Games Guide for integration - Video presentation of the prepared activities - Video presentation of the celebration of certain days: Human Rights Day, Peace Day, Role of women. - Files for the evaluation and analysis of the project - Project photobook
