60 participants from six countries (DE, CZ, ES, LV, PL, SE) are going to deal for eight days intensively with the topic “Europe and EU – A Chance?!”. They are above all young people who have never participated in an European youth encounter. In particular, disadvantaged young people and adolescents with fewer opportunities are taken into account. Based on a participatory and learning-centered approach, the learning process takes place before, during and after the youth exchange mainly through peer learning. The methodological spectrum ranges from role plays and panel discussions to the production of short films and theater scenes as well as the common development of a “Marienthal Treaty on the European Union”. In addition, the cross-cultural, political and linguistic exchange of young people are central aspects. In the already pre-established Facebook group young people have already drawn up a preliminary program for the Youth Exchange. They also have the opportunity to exchange information and enunciate expectations and proposals for the youth exchange. The young people are not only going to deal with the issue of “Structure and operating principles of the EU”, but are also going to exchange cross-border to other topics. Thus, they plan the meeting together, determine commonly the content of the program as well as the methods and evaluate the encounter jointly. In addition, they are going to acquire new experiences through the visit of institutions of European and International collaboration as well as through discussions with politically active voluntary workers, with people working in political education fields, adult refugees, politicians and media representatives. At the end of the youth exchange the results (eg, jointly prepared by the youth “Marienthal Treaty on the European Union” and the short film) are going to be presented to the public and made available for it (for example Facebook or YouTube, or at the homepages of the partners). During the youth encounter the young girls and boys will not only work in multinational small groups, but also take the daily meals in multinational groups. Furthermore, they will be accommodated in multinational rooms. With this, the intercultural exchange will be encouraged as well. To deepen this exchange, "cultural evenings" are going to be held, in which the participants of the various nations are not only going to present their characteristic culture, customs, way of life and language, but also current transformation and development processes (migration, political tendencies, subculture, change of characteristics of social classes). This intercultural learning process aims at developing the diversity awareness. The long-term benefit of the youth exchange is going to manifestate in the gained knowledge about topics around the European Union and the practical experiences and skills (producing a film, writing theater scenes, improved language skills, etc.) for the young people and project partners. In consequence their cooperation and their willingness to reflect on European issues and to participate in the construction of the European edifice is going to be strengthened.
