Objectives

The increasing heterogeneity in society and the linked constructions of social, gender, ethnic, religious, body and cognitive differences make it necessary to have a dialogue with youth about "diversity", as prejudices often harden in adolescence, when young people construct their own identity, and may lead to conflicts. The project "living diversity" aims at breaking down interpersonal obstacles in the inclusive and intercultural youth work. The partners Les Petits Débrouillards (FRA), Starkmacher (GER) and SCU (BH) want to promote the EU youth strategy by offering space for interpersonal exchange among youth of different backgrounds, with and without migration/flight background and disability. In the YOUTH EXCHANGE, the project "living diversity" develops attractive leisure facilities for disadvantaged groups that often lack in opportunities as such. The youth will gain benefits for their personal development such as a recognition of their talents and skills, the motivation and know-how of a self-determined and confident life as well as the strong sensation of being equal. The involvement in developing a public event will challenge them to leave their comfort zone and empower them sustainably. Through various group activities, the participation in workshops and the intercultural cooperation throughout the week, the youth will strengthen a diverse set of skills: foreign languages, media, self- initiative, social and intercultural competences. As diversity education and antidiscrimination must be addressed in our youth work daily and due to the current political challenges in the European Union, we want to give space for youth workers to come together and discuss the needs and opportunities of diversity education in the European Union. During the YOUTH WORKER EXCHANGE, we want to inspire each other and share best practices for inclusive and intercultural youth work. An additional training will invite the youth workers to further enrich their educational work, raise the quality of youth work and create new networks on European level.
