Fundamentals In May 2019 50 youngster at the age of 15/16 years from Germany and Poland will come to Schloß Trebnitz Education- and Encountercenter for the project "Youth votes for Europe". The focus of the projects we be European needs of the youngsters. Fostering youth participation in the borderregion is the long term strategy of the partnership. Special trained youth fascilators will prepare the project, guide the participants through and evaluate the learning process. We will combine the topic "European Elections / Values" and the method "Youth parliament". An excursion to Berlin will offer special insight ans incitation on european topics. Context/Background Youth participation is one of the focuses of the EU youth strategy. Alltough it is mentions in the treaties (EU-Treaty §165) we can recognize big deficits. Lots of youngsters think that their voice isn´t heard in the EU (Eurobarometer 90/2018). Furthermore young people are troubled by current developments like growing nationalism, fake news and EU-scepticism. They often lack of EU knowledge about aimes and procedures of the European integration. In the forerun of the European elections we want to fill European participation with life and want to transmit special Eu-knowledge to the youngsters. The meaning of Europe Our aim is, to lead young participants closer to the core of the European integration and make them the European added value understandable. We don´t want them to see Europe as a economic but as an democratic project, with values, interests and people. What holds Europe together? Which obstacles do we face today? Theses are the guiding questions. And we want to foster the relations of the civil society between Germany and Poland, which are still negatively influenced by asymmetries and prejudices. The young Europeans shall answer the question for themself: What is my personal reason to engage for Europe?
