The project "Whatsapp Erotokritos? - Youth and Youth Worker Mobility in Crete" is in the continuity of previous youth exchanges that have taken place in both Berlin and Myrtos on Crete since 2015. The project involves two activities - a mobility for youth workers and a youth mobility, both of which are being conducted in Myrtos, Crete. The Ierapetra region of Crete, where Myrtos is situated, is in a position of threefold economic as well as structural disadvantage. As a result, it is virtually impossible for local political and civil society actors to allocate local, regional or national resources to carry out youth work. Available funds on the part of the Greek state, no matter on which political level, are simply not available to any appreciable extent. In this respect, it is important to reach out to the marginalized young people there, to bring them closer to European values such as solidarity, freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights by means of high-quality youth and adult education, and to give them the opportunity to develop social and professional skills by a well-founded pedagogical practice. To this end, we also see it as an important goal to help Greek civil society actors, and in particular child and youth workers, both to develop the necessary skills for high-quality pedagogical work and to empower them to acquire knowledge about fundraising and funding for that they may be able to independently position themselves as implementing organizations of national and international projects of youth work.
