Objectives

All over the world, members of religious, ethnic and other minorities are victims of discrimination and exclusion on a daily basis. That this is still and increasingly also the case in Europe has become clear in recent years since the increase in the number of refugees in Europe. The political discourse and social reflection on this issue differ significantly in the various countries of Europe. Therefore, it was necessary to sit down together at one table and reflect and discuss this topic as a European and socio-cultural phenomenon. The country combination of Germany and Turkey was particularly interesting because in both countries the topic of religion plays a different role, other religious minorities exist and these are discriminated against and excluded for different reasons. In addition, the political relations and agreements between the two countries regarding the arriving refugees influence the perception of the population in Germany and Turkey. There are overlaps in this regard: The religious minority in one country forms the majority in the other and vice versa. The aim of this project is therefore to reflect on the treatment of minorities, to deal with processes of discrimination and exclusion and to work out solutions for a peaceful and accepting coexistence of people with different cultural backgrounds. Intercultural and international cooperation requires above all reflection, acceptance and understanding for other cultures and for one's own culture. Just as the Erasmus+ program aims at international exchange and transnational cooperation, aubiko e.V. with this project focused on an exchange at eye level, developing understanding for other ways of thinking and living, as well as on sharing different perspectives.
