Objectives

In response to current global events, Schoolclash eV, together with our partners initiates a project called Cultural Heritage in Perspective (CHiP). Large-scale immigration towards Europe and neighbouring countries in recent years has brought significant racial, ethnic, and religious diversity, but it has also prompted hostile backlash in the form of discrimination, xenophobia, and polarisation. Many of the European public have begun to feel that their culture and national identity is under threat while immigrants and their offspring question their belonging and identity. 20th century European history has shown how fear and ignorance of other cultures can destroy democratic development which is why there is an urgent need to reduce social tension, to promote cultural diversity, and strengthen common bonds. Our aim is to empower young professionals to work with cultural heritage as an active force to foster solidarity, inclusivity, and political citizenship. Cultural heritage is important because it helps us better understand where we come from and provides a link to certain social values, beliefs, religions and customs. Individuals with a strong cultural identity are more likely to feel a sense of security and belonging. Each person must be aware of and secure in their own identity and be willing to extend to others the same respect and rights that they expect to enjoy themselves. The arts as part of cultural heritage like literature, music, paintings and sculpture are essential to peaceful co-existence because it offers a dialogue for alternative points of view. By promoting the equal dignity of all cultures, we believe that heritage can be used as a common ground for dialogue and mutual understanding. Cultural Heritage in Perspective (CHiP) is a youth-trainer program designed to provide young professionals in social cultural work/education with the necessary skillset to communicate these values. By creating an environment for people of different national, ethnic or religious backgrounds to interact with each other, the program will combine the arts as part of cultural heritage with pedagogical practises based on innovative non-formal learning methods. Objectives 1. To promote the equal dignity of all cultures and strengthen bonds between different communities. 2. To understand the link between cultural diversity and human rights. 3. To gain a deeper understanding of the historical, social, aesthetic and scientific significance of cultural heritage. 4. To develop an understanding of how different cultures and societies are interconnected. 5. To promote the equal dignity of all cultures. 6. To understand the meaning of subjective culture and begin the process of identifying one's own cultural self or identity. 7. To challenge the perception within society that can undermine social inclusion or foster discrimination. 8. To develop, maintain, and support a social network of professional contacts. 9. To raise a sense of empathy towards other people. Our overall goal is that conditions and opportunities to enjoy cultural freedom and cultural diversity improve and that cultural heritage is increasingly used as an educational tool to promote human rights, peace-building and democratic development.
