The notion of "borders" is deeply linked to questions of our cultures of remeberance, national and european identity and interculutral understanding and dialogue. In daily bahavior our understanding of individual limits and borders that should not be crossed maintain a respectfull and tolerant interaction between individuals. In peadgogics the issue of individual limits is inherent to the idea of an autonomus subject, self-determined life and the relation of proximity and distance defines a professional and healthy relation between target-group (teeangers, youngsters, young adults) and professionals (youth workers, social workers, psychologists, adults). The definition of own borders is fundemantal to the process of becoming an adult and autonomous individual and defines our levels and abilitys to self-reflection. On a social/ inter-subjetive level it defines our way of communicating and seeing the other, our manners of non-violent communication, respect and tolerance. On a larger scale, borders are the fundamental structure of organising societies in groups of those who belong and those who disbelong. They organize democratic participation and are related to fundamental civic rights such as the right of election, education, health etc. To bring together theres differnet notions and perspectives on the issue of „Crossing borders“ means to reflect on a basic concept of human interaction and realtions and political organization as citizens. Moreover the historic, actual and future aspects of the project by looking up the history of German separation, biographical story telling of migration histories and developing visions of future borders makes the exchange an experiment of crossing borders in time and social lapses. The hybridasation of european identities, concepts of belonging and disbelongung, citizenship etc. will be approached in a way that it relates to the experiences of european teanagers from three different countries, three different perspectives. The objectives of the project are to support the participants in experiencing their own borders, to create a room for democratic education in a non-formal way (i.e. through the Camp Council), to empower self-determination/ self-esteem/ self-confidence/ self-efficacy and increase solidarity. The mediation of human rights with the focus on self-determination will be important. The participants will get an understanding of their own right and the right of other people to be self-determent and how to maintain this right. The exchange gives young people the opportunity to take part in an intercultural camp and it aims at showing them the worth of a united Europe, broaden their horizon and increase skills such as the knowledge of a foreign language. We want to raise the participant’s awareness of European core values, increase their awareness of existing social inequalities and hence increase their solidarity, which is one of those values in the European society. Through interviewing their own families and locals it will also make those people think about the topic of borders and the role of the EU/Erasmus. Last but not least, we want to offer the participants as well as the instructors and the organisations a sustainable partnership, which leads to continuing friendships between people from different European countries.
