The implementation of the project has the objective to initiate a broad reflection on mobility among young people. Mobility is perceived in its different facets. Mobility is not often being discussed in a broad context that relates positive and negative aspects. Regarding the positive aspects of mobility, the project wants to let the young people become aware of their possibilities for mobility and their freedom, especially in the EU. Mobility will be related to the Declaration of Human Rights and the participants’ knowledge about human rights will be widened. By putting in contrast the negative aspects of mobility the project wants to support the participants in widening their horizon and in developing sensitivity for mobility that has been forced by circumstances as war, human rights violations or natural disasters. It wants to encourage the participants to ask for the reasons for flight and their relation to EU policies, and to discuss the consequences it causes, like reinforcement of prejudices, xenophobia, lack of solidarity, increasing nationalism. Living together in an international group and informal methods will convey to the young people what each and every one can do against separation and for integration. Dealing with these issues and with racism shall help to prevent radicalisation. A second objective is the reflection on culture, cultural differences and cultural change. The project aims at letting the participants become aware of cultural differences, cultural equality and the influence of culture on their identity. The international composition of the group will support the exchange between different cultures and the openness towards habits, traditions, languages that are different from the own. This shall be reinforced by the two different places where the youth exchange is taking place and where cultural differences can be discovered. The research on history done in the project will show the participants that cultural change has taken place ever since and that culture is not constant. They will be encouraged to question categories like nation, culture or people that are often being used by populists for separation and for reinforcement of prejudices. By dealing with cultural differences, the participants shall become aware of what is unifying them despite their differences. The international exchange will support them in developing their intercultural capacities, their openness in a foreign environment and their ability to take action, to overcome contact barriers and to develop self-assuredness in new situations and in contact with unknown people. The third main objective that shall be implemented by the project is the reflection on Europe and the EU. Informal learning methods and the research on the history of World War II and the years after the war shall convey to the participants the reasons why the EU came into existence and what aims were on the agenda. Reflection about the present shall support the participants in finding out if the aims are still the same and if they regard the same aims as important. The participants will discuss the situation in their home countries. This will help them to trace the current crisis of the EU. They shall discuss which values and aims are important to them today and how they can be put into practice. As well, they shall discover their personal options to become involved as active citizens. These objectives are combined with the aim of promoting knowledge about and appreciation for youth participation, democracy, human rights and sustainability. The project aims at giving the participants the opportunity to learn through informal methods and to make practical experiences themselves. Youth mobility shall be promoted. By implementing the project, the partners want to achieve more awareness among the participants about their possibilities for active participation in society, for youth mobility, for integration of others and for solidarity. The participants shall become aware of the effects of team work and peer-to-peer-learning. Concerning the participants’ soft skills the project wants to offer an opportunity to the young people to make international experiences, to discover cultural commons and differences, to develop respect, tolerance and openness. At the same time the project aims at empowerment of young people to gain influence, to form and express their opinion, to work with others on a par and to pass on their knowledge and abilities to others. Throughout the project they shall make the experience of living in an international community and shall discover what it means in a practical way to live together in a community. The project wants to promote further international understanding and international cooperation among the partners and among the group leaders. It aims at empowering young people to take over responsibility for others and to understand themselves as active citizens and as European citizens.
