This is no secret that due to increased migration during the last years, Europe is undergoing big changes. There are growing tensions, intolerance and even acts of violence in societies in different European countries. They are often based on the fear of meeting and living together with people from other backgrounds. The majority of people, among them also a lot of young people, are confused and don’t know how to perceive and deal with these changes and ambiguity. The problem of being afraid of asylum seekers and changes that migration is bringing to our countries is so big that one project for sure can not solve it. Nevertheless, we, the organizations that are united in this project strongly believe that we should not ignore the reality and start acting again. The problem is that people who work with young people not always have the necessary knowledge, skills and experience of tackling these fragile topics in a sensitive manner. As a matter of fact, many youth leaders and youth workers themselves are confused and don't know how to perceive the growing tensions in the society and may be even prejudiced against asylum seekers and people with different cultural background. This training course intended to bring together motivated youth workers, youth leaders and peer-to-peer educators from youth organizations from different European countries and Turkey in order to develop their intercultural learning and dialogue competences (knowledge, skills, attitudes) that would enable them to become effective multipliers of intercultural dialogue at their communities with young people. In this way they would be more equipped to deal with growing tensions in the society by making young people more respectful and empathetic towards people from different cultures. More specific objectives of the training would be: • Sharing realities in different European countries when it comes to challenges related to dealing with cultural diversity (especially in the context of growing migration)– the focus on how it affects young people • Exploring main theories and concepts related to inter-cultural learning and dialogue competence –culture, identity, dialogue, diversity, active tolerance, inclusion-exclusion, mechanisms of stereotyping, prejudices and discrimination, etc. • Becoming more aware about own identity, culture, stereotypes and prejudiced behaviour patterns and realizing how it affects our work with youth • Realizing our role and our potential as youth workers/youth leaders to make positive changes in regards to greater understanding, more respect, solidarity and active tolerance at our communities and importance of involving young people in it • Developing skills of youth workers to design and facilitate specific non-formal learning activities for young people that develop their intercultural understanding, active tolerance, solidarity • Empowering youth workers to improve the quality of their work by becoming active promoters of intercultural learning and multipliers of intercultural dialogue with their young people – by transversally including Intercultural learning in their daily youth work or through specially design NFL activities. LINK TO OBJECTIVES OF ERASMUS+ The aim and objectives of this training go together with the general objectives of the youth part of Erasmus+ programme regarding improving the competences and skills of people that work with young people (and later on also young people) and regarding quality improvements in youth work. The theme of the project is very relevant, because it tackles a hot topic in Europe - how to accept and live in diversity. Developing the skills of youth workers to act as intercultural dialogue multipliers and involve in it also young people is fulfilling another objective - to promote active participation in the society. Through exchange of experiences and developing common ideas on follow-up projects and international cooperation of involved organizations is going to be increased.
