Objectives

A) Promoting peace and solidarity in the Danube region: Due to the past historic events, the Danube region still faces social challenges among the different nations. We are convinced that the current barriers and stereotypes can be reduced by giving space for interaction and intercultural dialogue. The non-formal methods used in the youth exchange will promote a peaceful and pro-social co-living among the partner countries. In this regard, the past youth exchanges organized by the consortium have shown the necessity and had tremendous positive impact on the youth and partners. The intercultural exchange among the youth has an absolute priority throughout the project implementation. B) Youth empowerment and entrepreneurship: The youth of today is the future of tomorrow. However, many of the young generation are overwhelmed with the challenges of today's society. There is much uncertainty about work, the environment and peace - disorientation is one of its consequences. Many young people lack creativity, independence and courage to (re) orientation particularly in the field of finding the suiting career. In this project, they get the chance to find, present and develop their own wishes, ideas and talents in order to empower them personally and to support their job orientation. In the offered workshops, the young people can be coached in social, sustainable and entrepreneurial aspects. Another aim is to contribute to the inclusion of refugees and of young people with special needs. The topics future, self-reflection and job orientation are topics that unite the newcomers and locals a lot. They must find a way together that is rendering more attractive perspectives. The project also aims at giving space for dialogues between future workers, employers and education sectors. Experts and excursions will be an important part of the meetings to establish direct insights and to allow realistic references to the working world. This action-oriented approach gives a significant contribution to the job orientation of the target group. C) Environmental education: The consortium regards consumption and waste as one of the core problems that needs to be addressed in the world. On the world's most international river Danube, one of the greatest risks of pollution is microplastics, which is mainly responsible for fish and fish larvae can be infested. A study carried out in Austria last year found out that 40 tons of microplastic, plastic pieces with a diameter of of 5 mm or less, are transported annually just through the river (pilot study "Plastik in der Donau", 14.09.2015). Looking at Europe, we generate 25 million tonnes of plastic waste, but less than 30% is collected for recycling (EU Press release 16. January 2018). Although most people know that plastic cannot be absorbed back into the environment, there are many that are unaware of the consequences of plastic consumption. If our societies continue to ignore the damage of waste and plastics, there is no guarantee for a healthy and satisfied life for the leaders of tomorrow. We are convinced that youth themselves have the best capacity and energy to make a change and be part of the transition we need. In order to become changemakers, they need to be informed and trained. Therefore, this project aims at empowering and training youth and young adults to become changemakers and multipliers of environmental friendly consumption. The title "Go Zero, Danube" goes back to "Zero Waste", a philosophy and life style that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused and sourced environmentally friendly. It is our responsibility to support and implement the goals of the Paris Agreement as well as the European Plastics Strategy in our daily youth work. Working with youth, we need to empower them for a sustainable and worth living future. Reducing plastics and waste is one of the most impactful things we can do to reach this goal. Given the global dimension, the challenge of plastic pollution is a present topic that connects all youth equally. OVERALL OBJECTIVES: - Creating a space of non-formal learning, creativity and appropriate job orientation for youth - Allowing transnational cooperation and the exchange of good practice and innovation among citizens of the Danube region - Raising awareness of environmental and sustainable living across Europe with the special focus on "Zero Waste" - Offering cross-cultural exchange as well as communication and collaboration via new media / social networks that is familiarize youngsters with other cultures, ethnicities, languages
