Objectives

Stories have power to shape the realities we live in. Since early childhood people are exposed to stories told by their elders: parents, teachers, priests, and poitical leaders and by listening to them they learn what are the norms, values and patterns of behaviors accepted in the community. Growing up in modern European societies, young people are also constantly exposed to immense flood of information: social media stars tell them how they should look like, act, and speak to be considered successful. Politicians and the media tell them what to believe, whom to hate and whom to follow. This makes young people confused and unable to process all this information, but also in many cases it makes them believe that they do not have the right to share their own ideas or perspectives, since so many other, "better" people are putting their stories out there. In result, we live in a society where many young people are discouraged to speak up and become passive followers who do not believe their voice can make any difference. This is problem is especially widespread in rural communities where youth suffer from limited access to education or career opportunities and in result they do not realize how much potential they have to bring a change in their local communities.. Taking into consideration that rural areas account for more than 80% of European territory and are home to over quarter of the population, we find it very important to explore new ways to reach out to those young people living in disadvantaged communities and empower them to believe that their stories matter. Project objectives: - raising participants and partner organizations professional capacities in the field of working with people from rural communities by equipping them with skills and knowledge on mapping the community needs and designing projects that are in accordance with their beneficiaries' expectations - promoting innovative approaches to community building and increasing understanding as for participatory art practices can be beneficial for groups at risk - To provide participants with knowledge about participatory visual methods and the benefits of promoting the concept as a way for enhancing young people's involvement, especially in the deprived communities - To introduce organizations who advocate on behalf of marginalized or issue-affected communities to an effective tool for involving their beneficiaries in the development and implementation of successful advocacy campaigns - to foster the cooperation between activists across Europe and to provide partners/participants from Eastern Partnership with access to an international network for future, cross-European projects
