Objectives

The project “Express yourself: Fashion speaks!” lies in the field of vocational education and pursues the goal to support empowerment, self-acceptance, courage to act, critical thinking, openness for the others and readiness, despite some stereotypes and prejudices, to start a common dialogue with others. These attitudes should be learned and gained by young people thanks to six planed international inclusive mobility activities. These attitudes should also have a positive influence on personal, social and professional development of the young people. In general, the project should lead to a strengthened social and transcultural dialogue and tolerance, both in the young people’s environment and in the society. Through the participation in international educational activities in frames of this project, young people should understand the idea of social diversity as a potential for development and, despite the different difficulties, receive motivation to learn. Through the meetings they also should develop a skill of critical thinking. All three planned youth meetings A2, A5, and A6 are international inclusive youth exchanges, where the topic of fashion and fashion industry will be used for a critical reflection on the underlying topics. It is not possible to deal with the topic of fashion industry without questioning social and cultural influence on gender roles and ideals of beauty and to confront with the pictures of beauty and appearance presented in the media. In this context it is necessary to ask about ways we see ourselves and another people. Such a confrontation makes it possible to support critical thinking under young people in their own and socially influenced thinking and dealing mechanisms. Through the participation at creative fashion-workshops young people will learn how to refine their self-image and to express themselves through their own style. In this way it should be also encouraging for them to understand, that fashion could be used to be courageous, express yourself and thus makes a contribution to self-empowerment. All three planed Advance Planning Visits A1, A3 and A4 aim at preparing of the three youth exchanges A2, A5 and A6 on the logistic and methodological levels, and also in terms of content. Representatives of the partner organizations and young people will be involved in planning of the activities, so common agreements can be done and they all can go together through the organizational process. The participation of young people aims at including young people into the organization of an international inclusive activity and to create space for their own initiatives and engagement. In all six planned activities non-formal educational methods and inclusive pedagogical approaches will be used. It aims at spreading the idea of non-formal education and inclusive pedagogical approaches and to emphasize these as a valuable completion to a formal educational processes. In the end, both of them have the same goal: to support young people in their personal development. Young people are disadvantaged due to their origin, social, economic and geographical difficulties. Also people with learning disabilities will be included in all activities of the project. The additional aim of this project is to include such young people into international youth work, who otherwise do not have any opportunities to participate in such educational activities. Disadvantaged young people are still underrepresented in the international youth work.
