Objectives

Environmental and social justice movements are growing globally and are an intrinsic part of influencing decision making spaces internationally and nationally. Nevertheless, accessibility to be an active and politically aware young citizen is often defined by one’s education, geographical placement, class, gender, religious beliefs or privilege in general. This is not an exception in climate action movement. We believe that through utilising popular education and youth empowerment tools it is important to advance youth work for better inclusion of marginalised youth into campaigns, activities and strategic work planning of environmental youth organisations, as well as wider civil society movements in Europe and ensure that we involve voices of those who are least heard in decision and policy making spaces. Through mapping exercise involving all project partner organisations, BUNDjugend together with YFoEE has identified identified the substantial gap between well established youth climate justice groups and youth in marginalised communities in Europe which are more impacted by environmental and social injustices than young people usually involved in climate justice campaigns. Training for Trainers: Inclusive Climate Justice Work will bring together 50 youth workers from 17 youth climate justice organisations across Europe and will aim to give them skills and knowledge for empowering less privileged individuals into climate justice campaigning and environmental decision making. As such, aim of ‘Training for trainers’ is to equip youth workers with transferable skills to empower youth with less access to decision making structures and/or disproportionately affected by environmental injustices locally, ensuring that climate justice work is beneficial to everyone, not just those with a dominant voice. Objectives of the overall project: - Train 50 young organisers for climate justice in conceptual and practical understanding of anti-oppressive practices in campaigns and non-formal and popular education tools when working with less privileged youth; - Build capacity of 17 youth organisations to reach out beyond white, educated, middle class audiences and deliver more impactful campaigns; - Monitor and evaluate the progress and collect best practices to be disseminated among partners and beyond. - Consolidate gained knowledge and skills through decentralised European wide workshops reaching out and amplifying voices of at least 200 young people from less privileged background in 10 countries across Europe.
