The background for applying and participating in this project was aimed at primarily developing the school's offers and teaching possibilities - in order to improve learning and broadening the understanding of and experience with international relations and possibilities within the EU for our students who live in the periphery of Denmark. We wanted our students to develop better international competences both language-wise, culturally and personally. We wanted our students to become aware of themselves as European citizens - with access to the European job market. We wanted our students to experience the value of knowing and using a European language. Our teachers also had to incorporate the EU/international dimension in their daily practice and help make the students become even more aware of their possibilities and status as EU citizens. This development was to evolve in the exchange of students and teachers to chosen partner schools in the EU. Among these, Debla in Spain and Totnes European School in the UK (and Ireland)
