According to the IPCC’s “Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C” which examined more than 6,000 studies, we are on track to exceed 1.5 degrees C warming between 2030 and 2052 if we continue on the current emissions path. Looking forward, the latest IPCC Report indicates that we are actually closer to 2 degrees C than we previously thought and the risk of 2 degrees C warming is much greater, particularly for threatened systems(e.g., coral reefs) and for the global economic impact. The past decade has seen an astonishing run of record-breaking storms, forest fires, droughts, coral bleaching, heat waves, and floods around the world with just 1.0 degrees Celsius of global warming. [See: Hidden Costs of Climate Change Running Hundreds of Billions a Year] But much of this will get substantially worse with 1.5 degrees of warming, and far worse at 2 degrees Celsius. Under the current threat, we are all responsible for making the changes we can, towards reducing our carbon emissions. EU has a stated goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 which means that in the next 31 years we are going to see massive carbon reductions. In many cases, actions to reduce emissions also help to achieve the SDGs and therefore raising awareness among individuals about topics like Climate Change, SDGs and responsible consumption should be our biggest priority. The primary aim of the project is to equip the youth workers and leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge that will enable them to develop and coordinate effective climate change awareness campaigns. We want to mainstream environmental education and work towards helping youth workers acquire skills they will use once they will return to their countries. The skills and methods learned during GREEN will enable them to act as change agents by being able to run awareness campaigns and mainstreaming Environmental Education that will inspire the youth. The main goal of the project is to make youth workers able to set environmental awareness campaigns That ́s the reason why its objectives are O1) To provide youth workers with knowledge, skills and tools about sustainability and the importance of it with a focus on: A) environmental sustainability & recycling economy B) sustainable fashion C) sustainable food & food waste O2) To create a space that will allow the youth workers to exchange good practices of sustainability and green economic policies and initiatives O3) Make the youth workers understand that sustainability is touching every aspect of our lives. It is about youth's involvement in promoting and living an ethical life and their awareness about the positive impact of sustainability compared with the consequences of unsustainable economics. O4) Equip the youth workers with the skills on social media for social campaigns which promote sustainability, green economy, and ethical living. O5) Fostering collaboration at the European level, within Erasmus+ framework, between NGOs active in promoting the importance of sustainability. The need to organize a project on sustainability is because, simply stated, our global future depends on it and we consider a move towards sustainability, in all aspects of life, critical to our future as a civilization and as a species. We must reduce our emissions as the statistics show that non-renewable energy sources are increasing the levels of greenhouse gases, especially CO2 and methane, which contribute to climate change. According to the World Meteorological Organization, in 2016 the emission of CO2 has doubled the average of the last 10 years. The concerns about greenhouse emission and climate change are cross-cutting: it ́s not just about the direct impact of rising temperatures, but climate change is impacting ecosystems, reducing their capacity to adapt to changing climates and, as a result, threatening the biodiversity and the ecosystem services our lives rely on. Non-renewable energy sources also affect people health: 12,6 million people death is due to pollution. In China, the factory of the world, it is estimated that 70% of rivers and lakes are contaminated by the 2.5 billions gallons of waste and wastewater produced by the textile industry. Access to water is of primary importance for the fashion industry, which use three years of drinkable water to produce a cotton t-shirt. That ́s the reason why people have to be aware of their power as consumers and individuals. We want the participants to see that sustainability can be done by everybody in many different ways and therefore we settled an experience for every of the already cited topics. GREEN is based on specific objectives pursued by the Erasmus+ Programme in the field of youth .
