The consortium for NATIVE is recruited from organisations that all have the will to make an impact on how people connect to nature. We wrote this project because we all think that young Europeans, especially those living in urban areas, should be aware of the opportunities, in terms of products and activities, that can be found in natural places: from food to clothes, from sport to well-being. Gathering food and products from nearby forests has a lower environmental footprint than buying packaged food from a supermarket and it improves mental and physical health while reducing the costs. This exchange aims to give to a group of young Europeans, coming mainly from urban areas, a good understanding of the importance of nature and its products for our lives. Moreover, it will focus on the traditional knowledge behind the use of Non Wood Forest Products (NWFPs) and biodiversity conservation. The consortium wants to create a strong project on environmental awareness and help young Europeans reconnect to nature, and promote the sustainable use of natural resources via very simple activities, such as gathering products from the forest and cooking/processing them, with the help of a local expert that will guide the group through the more practical skills learning. The structure of the main activities will be this: -Walking tour for gathering NWFPs; -Informal learning about Erasmus+ and Youth Pass -Informal learning of traditions about forests and nature in each country; -Creation of an herbarium online, with figures and fact about main edible products; -Exchange and dissemination of what participants learned during the exchange, with students and local citizens in Denmark, and with communities when participants are back home. The main objectives of NATIVE are to: -increase knowledge of European youth about and NWFPs and traditions correlate to them (cooking, medicinal uses) -contribute to increase knowledge of European youth about traditional uses of wild plants and NWFPs in their culture. -increase knowledge of the Erasmus+ Programme, Youth Pass certificate and the opportunity for young Europeans; For this reason, the most relevant priority is the creation of an online herbarium in a digital format; this is strongly linked with the promotion of youth empowerment as the output will be youth-led. Moreover, the overall aim of the project is to help understand the participants how deep are our connections with nature and the great amount of traditional knowledge that still can be used in this digital era and beyond. The exchange will increase the capacity of the youth leaders and the consortium partners who are working in the environmental awareness framework. Throughout our exchange, we emphasise the importance of our desired outcomes, how the new insights can be shared with colleagues and provide the participants with tools useful to work with their target groups.
