Objectives

The main goal of the project was to develop an English-language immersion program or at least to extend English-language subject teaching in our Russian minority school. To do this, we had to rely on the experience of the Estonian-Russian language immersion program in our school and use European cooperation and practical experience. We believe that the development of an English-language immersion program will provide a solid foundation for the integrated learning of our teachers and improve English language knowledge of our students. It will be wonderful, if after the project we will be able to develop our school curriculum in a way, where some subjects will be taught in English.

Background

Tallinn Pae Gymnasium has a well-developed organizational culture, but analyzing its activities broadly, we came to the conclusion that school and teacher's training for new global challenges is neither sufficient nor uniform and a large part of school staff do not feel like Europeans. We can see that European values are not expressed in the individual or integrated practice of teachers at school. We also came to the conclusion that, in view of the European context and the internationalization of the education system, in the near future it will be necessary to pay close attention to the development of the English language immersion program. This is the background, which explains why we decided to take part in the project.
