The youth exchange “My first step towards sustainable living” will bring together active youth from Estonia, Romania, Portugal and Poland. The project will take place in August 2019, on a small island in Estonia called Prangli. The aim of the youth exchange is to map out the issues regarding the contemporary lifestyle of our society and its potential consequences, in order to raise awareness on the topic among young people. We wish for the participants to reach an understanding on their role in maintaining the sustainability of the Earth and as well their own personal sustainability - a passive bystander sets a threat to the well-being of themselves and future generations, therefore, we also put the emphasis on encouraging active citizenship. Only the individuals themselves can create real change, by taking the first step. Our objective is to help participants come up with actual practical ideas on how to improve their lifestyle, and to have positive affect on their community. However, in order to have a positive effect on your surroundings, one must also focus on their own sustainability and efficiency. The aim of the project is to promote self-sufficient thinking and identifying one’s strengths, to which we devote the last day in the program. In addition, the project encourages overall broadening of one’s horizon, improves ability to analyse and argument, improves foreign and mother language skills, all by getting to know other cultures and traditions. The project is organized by a group of friends, to whom the sustainability of the world is really close to heart and who share a great desire to put their past experiences into practise in order to organize an independent youth exchange. The youth group is represented by Continuous Action, who supports this group as far as organisational aspects, by sharing the necessary knowledge, as well as keeping an eye on fulfilling the projects objectives. A lot of thought has been put into choosing the venue - Prangli Island is known for its traditions and hospitable people, being a wonderful example of community and cooperation. The islands’ calm and close-to-nature atmosphere creates the ideal environment to dig deep on the topic, by supporting the effectiveness of the youth exchange. As a bonus, Prangli introduces perfectly the versaty and beauty of Estonian nature.
