With the project, we want to draw the attention to nowadays' society to the very high and actual problem of today's young people, which are mental disorders and coping with them. In our group there are young people who have been in contact with anxiety or depression through themselves or close ones. One therapeutic direction for dealing with the problem and self-expression is art. Young people have the opportunity to make the problem more visible and more aware to the rest of society, make people open-eyed and disprove taboos related to mental health. The international project "Art as Self Expression" is an attempt by young people from Estonia, Romania and Poland to talk about their concerns, using the possibilities of art and the Youth Exchange as a dialogue tool. The project promotes self-expression through freedom, social activism, cultural, linguistic and social diversity, and introduces lifelong learning method to young people. The role of art in this project is therapeutic, but it also contains a message that helps society to get to know mental problems better, to notice and to intervene when needed. As a result of the project, a thoughtful short video will be made and it introduces the nature and impact of mental health, youth artwork and the Erasmus + program. The project involves 36 young people with limited opportunities aged 14-20, residents of Wloszczowa, Kunda and Galati. Polish and Estonian participants come from the small settlements of the periphery, with different socio-cultural difficulties, which in turn are caused by the geographical distance from the major centers and the range of options available. The project is closely related to interpersonal relationships, tolerance and exchange of experience in a multicultural atmosphere, using non-formal learning methods (such as simulations, workshops, experiential learning, digital e-learning, game platforms). We believe that participants in the project will be able to visualize their inner world through an art concept (each participant will create at least one individual work "Love VS Pain" and will participate in group work in the production of a social poster). Participants can learn through non-formal educational methods that help develop creativity, teamwork skills, awareness of the differences between themselves and other cultures, tolerance and good foreign language as well as native language practice. It is also an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the Erasmus + program and get a YouthPass certificate.
