Objectives

This school proposal aims to make its teachers able: - to face stereotypes and personal prejudices and help their students develop their cultural sensitivities. - to understand the dynamics in the classroom and realize the mechanism of discrimination and racism and intervene on time. - to discover new educational strategies suitable for culturally heterogeneous classes - to upgrade their skills in terms of integration of immigrants or foreign children -to act as mentors to their colleagues for the utilization for the new techniques and tools and - to exchange good practices and discuss challenges with colleagues and educators from other European countries.

Background

The vision of Eleftheroupolis High School grounds on the following «triptych»: - develop the intellectual abilities, knowledge, and critical thinking of its students - improve their communication and dialogue skills and - lay the foundations for the formation of democratic ideas. So it decided for the first time to seek its participation in European programs and transnational actions so that students and teachers can participate more actively in the European community. In recent years thousands of refugees and immigrants have come to our country, so we want to be ready to confront this new challenge. Our participation in this program could enable us to acquire the necessary qualifications to work with immigrants and strive for their smooth integration into the school community and, by extension, into society. Our school aims to help its teachers develop their cultural consciousness by giving them the tools and methods to impart knowledge and manage multicultural and ethnically diverse classes. We want our teachers and students to have the ability to work through transnational collaborations and cooperate with people from different educational systems and different cultures.
