Objectives

We wish to develop a more student-centered teaching approach by providing optimal inclusion for all our students and by encouraging them to develop soft skills like communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. We seek to create a learning environment in which the students will learn tolerance and recognition of their classmates, honesty, and mutual respect. We desire to develop educational methods and techniques for more effective ways of dealing with mixed-ability classes, classes with different educational assets or needs, that sustain the inclusion and integration of refugee students who have been integrated into our educational system. In addition, we want to enhance our extroversion as a school community, broaden our European horizons cultivate an attitude of communication and collaboration with teachers and students from other European countries.

Background

We and our fellow teachers felt the need for improvement and further professional development by gaining access to new methods in education. Our aim, from the start, has been to develop lesson plans which will be effective in heterogeneous classes., implementing the principles of differentiated teaching and learning and tapping into art, technology, environmental and political awareness. Our concern has been to develop practices that will eliminate any potential obstacles and ensure our student's participation in the learning process regardless of their nationality, gender, social background, or special educational needs. As a result, we will encourage relationships, communication, mutual respect, and the spirit of collaboration in our classes. In addition, we intend to cater to the development of the students' critical thinking by organizing activities for practice and teaching techniques and strategies for problem-solving. Finally, the need to create a network of collaboration with colleagues from other European countries, in order to exchange good practices and also improve our competence in the foreign language by using it in order to communicate.
