Our primary goal was to find ways to increase students' interest to be mored involved in the learning process. We aimed to study the operation of school library networks and to integrate literacy activities, through literature and the arts, into teaching practice, to get in contact with good practices in order to highlight students' special talents, to cultivate extroversion, balance between them, regardless of their country of origin and socio-economic status and mainly to link language lessons with literature and the arts by adopting practices of other European schools that have been successfully implemented. We were also very interested in cultivating the language skills of our teachers and students, to acquire a positive attitude towards future collaborations with schools and institutions through European projects and to gain the experience to implement them successfully. Our finally goal was to find resources for the enrichment of our school library, the creation of a pleasant environment and the purchase of new and modern books that will match with the needs and requirements of this period.
The 1st Primary School of Agios Nikolaos is a school with a tradition in the implementation of cultural projects. In recent years, significant actions have been done, eTwinning and Erasmus KA2 projects are being implemented, dreaming of a school with a European culture that will continuously improve the quality of the provided education . In 2018 we joined the National System of School Libraries of the Ministry of Education and thus emerged the wish and the need to make our school library functioned as a core of learning, creation, space of expression of students and their integration, regardless of their cultural and economic background. In order to achieve the above, our teachers had to enrich their knowledge and experiences, to work in an intercultural environment, to get acquainted with foreign languages, to improve ICT skills, to participate in European school activities, These valuable skills, would be acquained through this project, in order to involve literature and the related arts in the teaching practice.
