With the present plan, we aspired to boost the teachers of our school, who were interested in and showed plenty of zeal refreshing their cognitive and pedagogical tools, in order to act multiplicatively in our school community and become a barrier to this problematic aspect of our educational reality. Our main target was to serve the vision and the expectations for a school operating as a lively and active learning community, open to the rest of the local community and to the modern challenges. We realised that Lyceum cannot be rendered as a place of knowledge sharing or preparatory level for the tertiary education but of great significance for the development of various student skills and the cultivation of essential education.. The plan is directly correlated with the improvement of the offered educational work, since the issues our school unit confronts, require a holistic approach.
Τhe European development plan of our school was inspired by the need of redefinition of the educational work. Recording a series of issues our school confronts we realised that the main factor for problems seemingly unconnected is students’ indifference in learning and finding a meaning at schooling as well as difficulty in co-operating and interacting creatively with their schoolmates and teachers. The present plan refers essentially to the extensive school community and stems from the need to readjust to the new educational environment (new Lyceum, redefinition of new Lyceum as an autonomous educational level and disengaged from the tertiary education entrance exams), and the social change which affect the modern school reality (economical crisis, degradation of Athens city centre , high percentage of immigrant students, violent incidents, student-teacher disputes, difficulty in teacher co-operation , high percentage of students with lack of interest in school programmes).
