With precision agriculture we manage more efficiently the local variability of a field with the aim of: • Increasing production efficiency. • Improving product quality. • The rational and more efficient use of chemical inputs. • Reducing energy consumption. • The protection of soil and groundwater.
Precision farming systems rely on the capabilities of new technologies, as opposed to conventional farming methods. Precision agriculture manages the field in smaller areas (management zones) that show a relative uniformity that is more in line with reality. With precision agriculture we manage the local variability of a field more effectively, based on these developments we decided to design this program. The technologies used in precision agriculture consist of computers, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), various types of sensors, and input control systems. The integration of new technologies in agriculture has enabled a different management that was not possible a few years ago, to levels of detail that could not be achieved in the past. The trainees through the training program got acquainted with the applications of precision agriculture such as a simple geological study, soil acidity measurements, weather recordings, up to satellite monitoring, aerial spraying and aerial photography and installation of sensor networks
