Objectives

VET can offer very attractive options to graduates. The upgrading of the study programs and the harmonization with the modern developments in most professional fields gives the possibility of continuous development and adaptation to the data of the time. We want learners to forge a modern educational and professional profile that will help them meet the expanding demands of the labor market. We wish for the trainees and teachers to look for collaborations that will help them and the organization to better adapt to the educational and professional demands. Through mobility programs, we expect the development of technical knowledge and skills as well as horizontal skills. Also, the development of a transnational culture will help them to take advantage of opportunities provided in the EU for education and work. Finally, we want to highlight the important role of professional development that internships can provide but also the way qualifications are recognised through the appropriate tools established by the EU (Europass, ECVET)

Background

The 1st Patras Laboratory Center is an organization with great potential as it serves the laboratory work of six VET providers in the wider area. The activity of the laboratory center maintains a key role as it implements, apart from the conventional laboratory work, the laboratory courses of the apprenticeship classes and supervises the communication with the labor bodies. VET learners belong to low social and economic parts of society. They have neither the motivation nor the ability to travel to the EU and take advantage of the opportunities it offers for development. For teachers, we notice that while VET is modernized and new subjects enter the curricula, they face difficulty in following the developments and are looking for ways to adapt to the new condition. We also observe a severe lack of knowledge in relation to VET tools for awarding qualifications acquired through informal learning. Finally, we expect the organization to acquire contacts and a functional connection with educational and professional bodies in the EU and to proceed to substantial collaborations which will upgrade the quality of the academic outcomes.
