Project summary

Having to deal with difficulties facing our students in game organising and bullying, inside or outside schools, we have decided upon cooperating with educational units from abroad to discuss the issue in common. Our project, Play and Learn About Youth, will bring together educational units from five different countries. Cooperation and communication through ICT are bound to stimulate the participants’ interest and enhance teaching practices on the basis of diversity and exchange. Although the project will be officially carried out in French, we have decided to encourage communication in all languages of partner countries. It is a sad truth that students worldwide may share common needs but, at the same time, they lack interest in team work and creativity. Children foster many virtual relationships, thus facing problems in shaping their personalities. A nice way to prevent this is by discovering and playing essentially fair traditional games, where fair play becomes an advantage and develops into an interest in cooperation and participation. Exchanges through the eTwinning platform will shape the project, thus building Game Museums in each school and a CD recording of relevant poems and songs. Actions will culminate in the organisation of the Games Olympics and the Games Festival with the aim of enhancing the value of fair play and the importance of respecting the rules. Making a trip down memory lane with old traditional games will function as a time machine that will revive the eras and the societies that invented each game. All European partners unanimously agree to involve all students, regardless of their participation in mobilities. Activities have been exclusively designed in this direction. Coordinators will involve partners in designing a website, through which products will be made available to the public to celebrate diversity in theory and practice.

Final report summary

Faced with the difficulties that our students face in organising their games and the occurrence of violence in and out of schools, we have collaborated with educational institutions in other European countries to examine the problem together. Our Play and Learn About Youth project brought together schools from 5 countries. Collaboration and communication through ICT stimulated the interest of the participants and led to educational, cultural enrichment of teaching practice based on diversity and exchange of good practices. The official language of the project was French, however we decided to encourage all participants to communicate in the other languages of the partner countries. It is true that students, everywhere, have common needs, but also a lack of interest in collectives and a lack of collaborative creativity. Children create many virtual relationships and this attitude causes problems in the development of their personality. Our project was a good way to avoid this so that our students discover and play realistic fair traditional games where fair play becomes an advantage and develops into an interest in cooperation and participation. The exchanges through the eTwinning platform, defining the project, resulted in the creation of a game museum in each school, the creation of collaborative products using new technologies that appear everywhere in the project's TWINSPACE. The organisation of the Games Olympiad and the Games Festival were the actions that highlighted the value of games and the importance of respecting the rules. The games throughout time, act as machines for reviving the era and the society that created them. At the same time, the education that we as a coordinating school provided in the field of educational robotics was the bridge from the past to the future. Our collaboration with external bodies, such as the National Etwinning Agency, and in particular the involvement of the eTwinning Ambassador of the region where the coordinating school is located, has been the added value effort to disseminate our work in the field of good practices. At the same time, her assistance as an external expert contributed to the peer evaluation of the work and feedback. In addition, our cooperation with local institutions, local professionals and local authorities was successful, as our students gained knowledge about the place and its people in a playful way. Finally, the value of sport was consolidated in practice and became an inspiration, a vector of friendship and kindness. It was the common wish of the European partners that the entire student community, not only those who participated in the mobility activities, should be actively involved in the project. All activities were designed with this in mind. The PTAs have been partners and helpers throughout the project. Although the tragic situation we experienced with the pandemic suspended many activities and was the reason for the withdrawal from the project of the Italian school, Istituto Comprensivo Bosa, nevertheless, at least the planning of our activities was not cancelled. On the contrary, all that was mentioned in the file of our approved plan was carried out. Our work on the eTwinning platform has been awarded a National Quality Label in Greece and Portugal. The PLAY AND LEARN ABOUT YOUTH partnership has therefore been successfully completed.
