Our goals for this project are: • to gather young people from countries around the EU, with different backgrounds concerning their relationship with new technologies, as well as different employment backgrounds, and, with the use of non-formal learning principles, to help educate them and cultivate their knowledge around the importance of safety when exposed to this vast and ever-growing online, connected world. • to recognise the importance of using all the above with safety and the dangers they may pose. Therefore, learning about the precautions, which a user of new technologies should take into consideration, will be a very important aspect of the project. • to give young people a chance to fight unemployment, through learning on the usage of new technologies. This way, they will be able to expand their knowledge and become more qualified for a broader employment field. • to give to a rural area, such as the island of Syros, the opportunity to host a project like this. Usually projects in Greece take place mostly in urban places, such as the capital Athens or some of the other big cities (e.g. Thessaloniki, Patras etc.), but for a relatively small island to be selected as the host place is definitely a very uncommon scenario and is exactly what we are trying to establish, beginning with this project. • to get young people to practice more in using their knowledge of foreign languages. Thus, they will not only be able to expand this knowledge and make their future contacts with people from abroad easier, but also they will become more familiar with the terms concerning new technologies, therefore more qualified to work with them. • to present young people coming from a variety of countries the opportunity to meet up and exchange elements of their culture, certainly contributes to broadening their perception of the world and helps them to better adjust to it, making future visits abroad easier for them.
