Objectives

The main objectives for our schools in the period 2019-2023 were: - to improve linguistic & intercultural competences in our students, - to develop linguistic & methodological competence of teachers in foreign languages to foster integration of European languages in our curricula, - to promote teaching innovations with active methodologies in the classroom, and - to promote internationalization of our institution bringing about a strong European dimension.

Background

The motivation for applying was firstly to improve our school performance in the wider sense. Due to cutbacks by the educational administration in years 2012-13, our school suffered from staff reductions which have since challenged, among others, our CLIL programme. Given the particular conditions of our school, the origen of our student intake, our CLIL programme and the new languages in our curricula (Italian), teacher-training in languages and methodology was considered a priority. Once the crisis was behind, retirement of the older generation of teachers brought forward a renovated staff, eager to find innovate strategies for their teaching. One in three teachers was less than three-year veteran in the school. This was our starting point at the application.
