Objectives

The specific objectives of the project were: - Observe and learn, from actual lessons, active and innovative methodologies (including learning by projects), that allowed us to respond to the diversity of interests and skills of our students. - Acquire skills to integrate new technologies in the classroom in an efficient, safe and motivating way. - Acquire strategies for teaching foreign languages and analyse how Spanish is taught to non-native speakers. - Provide CLIL training to teachers willing to join the project. - Provide ourselves with strategies to promote interest in culture and heritage, and have access to materials and resources that help raise awareness of European citizenship. - Promote the Silbo Gomero as the only whistled language which is officially taught at schools.

Background

This was the first Erasmus + mobility project for school education staff undertaken by our centre, the IES San Sebastián de La Gomera. It responds fundamentally to an imperious need for modernisation and internationalisation of the institute, which suffered from a deep isolation, due to its geographical location, but also from the lack of a transformative impulse on part of the managing and teaching teams. In this context, we face the challenge of procuring the acquisition, by our students, of the "global competence". On the other hand, the education of the Silbo Gomero, contemplated in the curriculum of Spanish Language and Literature, is a pioneering experience of promoting our heritage, which differentiates us and we can promote among our European partners.
