Our first goal was to consolidate a line of work in the centre in favor of its internationalization, first training teachers, improving their linguistic competence in foreign languages and their professional skills, with new methodologies; reinforcing the management activities of an incipient E+ commission, incorporating more teachers and better distributing the tasks, drawing up an Erasmus plan and involving the educational community in it, monitoring the activities in the Senate and School Council sessions, and adding this document to those of the Annual General Plan. The second aim consisted in creating a network of educational centres with which we could carry out mobility activities for students and share with them of the characteristics of our island, our rich landscape and natural environment. Also, take our educational system, centre projects and the work of our students to other European centres. The other three objectives were common to the European Commission proposal, and consisted of the search for tools to address school failure and early dropout, improve our educational quality, share other methodologies and develop activities to disseminate European Cultural Heritage.
Polyhymnia, the Muse of sacred poetry and sacred hymn, and Terpsichore, the goddess of dance and the Muse of chorus, have been relieved in this period of pandemic by Urania, the muse of astronomy, science and dissemination. At no other time more than now, has science been so necessary. A similar renovation has undergone our project, Language linking Europe Together. IES Villa de Mazo, a public Compulsory Secondary Education, baccalaureate and VET centre, located on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands, hosts the population of Villa de Mazo and Fuencaliente, a total of 6,400 inhabitants. In 2018, our work on Cultural Heritage E+ project, Building Archs, brought students closer to craft traditions such as embroidery, ceramics (pottery) and old trades. We are now valuing our immense intangible heritage, and although, originally, the cornerstone of our work was going to be the Festival of La Bajada de la Virgen, its cancellation, oriented us to other equally interesting aspects, such as traditional games, the way of using water and natural resources, and of course, the recent volcanic eruption in Cumbre Vieja, which has been in the spotlight in the last few months, being broadcast around the world.
