Our objectives revolved around three main points: In terms of students: We wanted to internationalize our school, improve the level of key competences and motivation, and raise awareness about natural and cultural heritage. These objectives were set according to the necessities that we observed in our students in our analysis prior to the application for this project: necessity of awareness about the international context and the knowledge of European natural and cultural heritage, necessity of improving foreign languages and necessity of increasing the level of our students’ motivation to finish their current studies. In terms of teachers: Necessity of learning and applying new educational methodologies, based on the need and constant concern for achieving better results in relation to our students through the tools used in the classroom. In terms of our school: Increasing coordination within our school by carrying out interdisciplinary projects which can affect the whole educational community, based on the necessity of posing this type of project with relevant results, and being able to make a difference and improve the context in which our school develops its activity.
Our highschool, IES San Pedro de Alcántara, applied for this project with the conviction that we could transform our school into a dynamic organization which will be able to provide our students with an integral formation in terms of competences, especially the multilingual competence as well as the competence in citizenship, and a higher sensibilization and respect towards natural and cultural heritage, bearing in mind our European dimension. Moreover, we wanted to achieve this formation in competences by improving our teachers’ teaching methodologies. We believe that, in order to be successful in this conversion process, conducting an Erasmus+ project which includes quality structured formations increases the chances of contributing to the improvement of our students’ competences, at the same time as our competences improve. For this reason, we connect this objective to the selection of courses based on active methodologies, as well as sensibilization and respect for the natural and cultural heritage and the way in which we convey such values.
