Objectives

To promote the use of ICT in our classrooms, bringing the teaching-learning process closer to the needs of our students and the challenges they face today, prioritising students’ participation while allowing for the inclusion of the students’ interests and ideas while caring for different learning paces. To move away from the inertias of present teaching practices in favour of an adaptable approach catering for the students' varying capacities to learn. To improve communication processes within the school and with the educational community through the use of ITC. To encourage students’ linguistic competence in English both through Linguistic Areas (LA) and Non-Linguistic Areas (NLA). By implementing this approach to our work together with the improved ITC, to offer the students the possibility to obtain official certificates in English. To take the first step to the internationalisation of teaching practices in our school by creating a network of contacts throughout the European Union so as to organise future collaborations, exchanges and projects such as Erasmus+, in order to improve the linguistic ability of our students, reaching higher levels of motivation, and dealing with diversity in the most effective manner possible.

Background

This project was the result of a need to improve the teaching and learning processes in a school where both teachers and students showed a potential which was not sufficiently developed. These needs referred to new technologies and innovative educational methodologies, whose main point was the better use of the foreign language in a contextualised way with platforms such as Twinspace or Padlet, which will allow students and teachers to keep contact with schools in different countries, having an impact on their acquisition of a second language and increasing their potential mobilities within and outside Europe, both academically and professionally. Improving the communicative skills in teachers of non linguistic areas, increasing the percentage of hours in which English is the main communicative language was another important reason to apply for the project. In order to achieve this, it was essential to renew the methodologies applied, reflect on the teaching practice and compare it with other teachers and European institutions, which this project would allow us to carry out.
