Objectives

The main objective of this project was that the teachers of IES Botikazar acquire and/or improve their professional skills/competences that facilitate the teaching of science in an integrated way (STEAM) in the plurilingual baccalaureate. To achieve this main objective we set the following partial objectives: to develop new and better teaching methods for baccalaureate subjects taught in a foreign language and included as STEM subjects; to establish interdisciplinary project requirements in the programs of each science subject; to increase the number of scientific-technological vocations among the student body, especially among girls; to improve the skills and competences of the school management and administration; to improve the methodology for the implementation of evaluation systems for projects carried out by different departments; to develop the European dimension and internationalization of the school and to promote the professional development and recognition of the professionals of Botikazar High School.

Background

The formation of scientifically and technologically competent citizens is one of the challenges of today's society, which is why a growing demand for professionals in the scientific and technological field is expected, even when there is a lack of interest in this branch of knowledge. This is the origin of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) initiative, which promotes the integrated study of these subjects and which was one of the areas for improvement in our institution. The needs detected were to learn about new STEM teaching tools/methods, promote scientific and technological vocations especially among female students, relate STEM teaching with language skills, make organizational and space changes to carry out multidisciplinary activities, make IES Botikazar a reference in Internationalization, acquire knowledge about the implementation of cross-cutting projects, implement activities related to programming in the programs of the subjects, implement activities such as "Science Clubs" that encourage research work among students and standardize the "Bring Own Your Computer" program.
