We need to improve the results in science in general and in Mathematics in particular in order to place ourselves in the neighborhood of the average shown by the statistics presented. We need to improve the graduation rates and the reduction of early school leaving of our students and these must necessarily go through the improvement of the results in mathematics and, related to it, in science, especially in Physics and Chemistry. The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands includes every year, among its priority objectives, the improvement of the results of school performance, as well as the rates of suitability, qualification, absenteeism and early school leaving. We need to improve linguistic competence as an essential tool for access to the understanding of scientific subjects. We have to change the vision that society has about science and mathematics in particular and we have to make students and, especially, female students know, enjoy and do science and all this from a European perspective, beyond the insularity in which is Tenerife and closer to an international and globalizing approach such as Europe.
We have requested the project because: 1. We needed to get started in European projects (it is the first center in our municipality and in our inspection area to request them) to work on the objectives described above, improve the image of the center and motivate students and teachers. 2. We need to improve the results in science in general and in Mathematics in particular in order to place ourselves within the range of the average shown by the statistics presented. 3. We need to improve the graduation rates and the reduction of early school dropout of our students and these must necessarily go through the improvement of the results in mathematics and, related to it, in science, especially in Physics and Chemistry . 4.We need to improve linguistic competence as an essential tool for access to understanding of scientific subjects. 5. We have to change the vision that society has about science and mathematics in particular and we have to make students and, especially, female students know, enjoy and do science. 6. We needed to provide the center with an international and European dimension to overcome the extra barriers that insularity and remoteness of an outermost region such as the Canary Islands entail.
