Objectives

The main objective was to alleviate the uncertainty that teachers feel when putting into practice methods that they do not master when using STEAM learning models for the development of key skills in students. For this, this project included training and observation periods in specialist centers in STEAM and project-based learning. Goals: - Introducing a new methodological line to improve the students’ key skills. - Facilitating the mobility of teaching staff to carry out structured training courses in Europe. - Facilitating the mobility of teaching staff to carry out periods of observation of good practices in other European centers. - Expanding the network of international contacts with which to start collaborative projects or etwinning. - Improving the linguistic competence in English of the participating teachers. - Laying the foundations for future school and teaching exchanges. This responds to the need expressed by teachers to: - Learn creative and innovative methods that motivate students. - Gain confidence in the use of ICT in the classroom. - Learn about other educational models. - Improve the use of English. - Improve the key skills of ESO students.

Background

IES Alfonso VIII is an urban, historical and public Secondary Education center that has participated in the Erasmus programme since 2015. The educational project (PEC) includes a European Development Plan whose main objective is that europeanization and internationalization be its hallmarks of identity. To this end, one of the actions is to europeanize the permanent training plan for teachers so that they improve their linguistic competence in foreign languages, improve the quality and effectiveness of their teaching practice through innovation and creativity by learning about other methods and systems, and finally, enrich themselves personally and culturally by facing situations of cultural and linguistic diversity. Consequently, the network of European centers with which to collaborate with students grows (etwinning, exchanges). The specific goal of the project is to train teachers to develop STEAM skills in students. The school has been participating since 2018, in the Regional Government project, "Training in STEAM skills", based on peer learning. It is intended to complement this training through the instruction and observation of the practice of specialists in this field, which is highly demanded by teachers.
