Background

Our project “Teachers for Europe” was created by the consortium among three educational centres in Puerto del Rosario, the capital of the island of Fuerteventura (Canary Islands): the Teacher Training Centre Puerto del Rosario, the only public institution belonging to the Council of the Ministry of Education in the Canary Islands that provides teacher training and support to 37 educational centres (Infant, Primary, Secondary and Adult Education) and their teachers, having an impact on their students’ teaching-learning process; the High School Santo Tomás de Aquino (676 students and 54 teachers); and the High School San Diego de Alcalá (952 students and 79 teachers). Our main purpose was to carry out job-shadowing activities as well as structured training courses in different European educational environments that provided us with knowledge, abilities, attitudes, new strategies and innovative methodologies we could disseminate to teachers of our educational centres, having an important impact on the need for internationalization and European awareness of our school community, and compensating not only advisors and trainers, but also teachers, for reduced training possibilities, due to our geographical constraints.
