Objectives

The objectives we aimed to achieve were: - to reduce the school failure rate, which in the Valencian Community is one of the highest in Spain. - to motivate teachers to be able to make changes in teaching and learning methodology. This motivation has a direct impact on student motivation, which will help them to achieve better results. - to motivate students so that they leave our centre as educated as possible, despite the difficulties they may encounter in the process. - to improve the English language skills of both teachers and pupils, as it is the language of communication with the rest of the EU countries and it is necessary to share realities and experiences. In addition, one of our objectives is to achieve a plurilingual education, a process which is every day in progress. This process is still in its infancy, as some subjects are taught in English to pupils at different stages. - internationalise our pupils, thus offering them the possibility of enriching themselves and being prepared to find work in different countries. In short, opening doors to a multitude of possibilities.

Background

Our school is located in a working class neighbourhood in Valencia. A few years ago we considered the need to change our teaching and learning strategies in order to adapt to the new needs of our students in the present and in the future. In order to do this, it was necessary to draw up a strategic plan which was designed by a team of teachers together with the school management and in which we set ourselves some objectives and challenges over a period of four years. As we were aware of other schools participating in Erasmus projects, we thought that it was a good opportunity to carry out our internationalisation project and to acquire new strategies, as well as to share new practices and come into contact with teachers from other European countries. Our students have few possibilities to leave their environment unless they participate in this kind of projects. We consider it essential for them to be connected with students from other European countries, as it will bring them personal and academic benefits in order to be prepared for the challenges of the future.
