Objectives

The goals of the project are specifically the immersion in the learning of all the knowledge related to the concept "STEM Education" (from the English STEM Education) has been developed as a new way of jointly teaching Science, Mathematics and Technology (in general, not only computing) with two well-differentiated characteristics: 1) Teaching-learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in an integrated manner instead of as compartmentalized areas of knowledge. 2) With an engineering approach regarding the development of theoretical knowledge for its subsequent practical application, always focused on solving technological problems. The relationship between Mathematics, Science and Technology is inherent to these disciplines. What it is about is intentionally provoking scientific research processes for the joint learning of new concepts of Mathematics, Science and Technology within a practical process of design and problem solving, as is done in Engineering in the real world.

Background

The request for this project responds to the analysis of the needs detected in the preparation of the European development plan of the IES Félix Muriel. Within the detected needs, we could specify: On the one hand, management and organization of the Institute. Skills in new teaching methodologies (active methodologies), international and institutional relations, visibility, projection. On the other hand, the request for this project is framed in the need of IES Félix Muriel to satisfy the academic, professional and vocational training needs of all members of the educational community. Specifically, in the analysis of our school´s needs, there had been observed the need to improve in our teaching staff the skills related to new teaching and learning methodologies, language skills, training in STEM and digital skills, as well as to exchange experiences with other schools in the management of coexistence and mediation. Of all these needs, in this project it had been decided to work specifically on training in STEM methodology, although finally training in languages was also carried out.
