Objectives

This project has been developed with the aim of enabling students and vocational training staff of IES Virgen de Las Nieves to take part in projects within the framework of the Erasmus+ programmes, both by participating in mobilities and by hosting students or staff from other institutions. The actions developed were aimed at achieving the following objectives: - To give students and staff of the school the opportunity to acquire professional, linguistic and social skills in places where the business dimension is different from the insular one. - To promote the personal enrichment of the participants through intercultural awareness. - To strengthen relations with counterpart partners, favouring future cooperation projects. - To bring La Palma society closer to Europe.

Background

"Palmeros en Europa 2019" was a mobility project for students and staff of vocational training -KA102- framed within the Erasmus+ programme developed by IES Virgen de Las Nieves between the 1st of June 2019 and 31st of May 2022. IES Virgen de Las Nieves is a state school, certified in the standard ISO 9001 and with the ECHE and the VET charters, which currently teaches: - VET of eight professional groups: Physical and Sporting Activities, Administration and Management, Agriculture, Electricity and Electronics, Hotel Industry and Tourism, Food Procesing, Health and Transport and Maintenance of Vehicles. - Intermediate Special Regime Sports Education: Rescue and Lifesaving, Football and Sailing. The educational offer includes training courses of Initial Level VET and Adapted VET Cycles (ISCED2), Intermediate Level VET Cycles (ISCED3), Intermediate Special Regime Sports Education (ISCED3) and Higher Level VET Cycles (ISCED5). It is located on La Palma, one of the non-capital islands of the Canary archipelago, from where access to the mainland and other parts of Europe is quite complicated. Of the 22 degrees offered, 19 are offered in La Palma only by IES Virgen de Las Nieves, so the school receives students from all the municipalities of the island. The economy of La Palma is based on the two activities that lead the island's export flow: agriculture and tourism; to these two we must add public services. The majority of our students come from families who work in the agricultural and service sectors or are unemployed.
