Objectives

For Laboratory Operations students, a stay for training has been proposed at the SBG Dresden, which is an educational centre that makes it possible to simulate work in a company in the chemical sector. The stay of duration of two weeks, involves three students and two teachers, and will bring them the following benefits: - Acquire personal autonomy, so that they carry out laboratory tasks more independently. - Know better the professional sector, thanks to the experience in a laboratory equipped as a professional one. - Improve language skills in English. Given that the students come from a very diverse background (secondary school graduates, Baccalaureate students without EVAU (EVAU means a civil exam to access University), access by free test or exam), their level of English is generally low, so preparation in this language and a two-week stay speaking English contributes a lot to improve their training.

Background

The relationship with countries in our European surroundings can provide us with knowledge transfer to be able to apply new technologies and innovative techniques to our teaching work. Our centre has the objective of implementing a far-reaching methodological change, assuming the postulates of the PBL (Project Based Learning). We are aware that this approach is the most widely used in many European countries and we would like to benefit from practical and close knowledge of its potential. Furthermore, they improve their linguistic competence in English, the reference language in chemistry laboratories. It is intended to offer vocational training grade students the possibility of a short-term stay in a safe and guided educational environment, by teachers and tutors both in the centre of origin and in the destination centre, different from the usual one, since they have normally had fewer vital opportunities in this aspect. The spread of xenophobia and prejudice against certain European and non-European nationalities is a fact that must be tackled from the beginning. Our organisation aims to help to overcome these prejudices and to create an open and tolerant citizenry in the face of difference.
