GOOD TEACHING PRACTICES: Learning, educational transit and sustainability of rivers. Multiplier Events: E1. Diffusion days "The River as a participatory learning space. Methodologies” in Spain. E2. Diffusion days "The River as a participatory learning space. Methodologies” in Italy. E3. Diffusion days:”Video pills for educational transit, innovation and participatory learning” in Spain. E4. Diffusion days:”Video pills for educational transit, innovation and participatory learning” in Italy. E5. Pedagogical day of dissemination of the project of Educational innovation: “The River as a space for participatory learning and educational transit” in Portugal. Learning/Teaching/Training Activities: C1. Short-term joint staff training events in Spain C2. Short-term exchange of groups of pupils in Portugal C3. Short-term joint staff training events in Italy IMPACT The participants teachers and researchers will learn a new methodology that uses a natural element like river as a learning space. Students will profit of the project for gaining skills that not only concern their school life, but that they’ll make them future active citizens; they will also fully understand the importance of river element in a territory. High schools will enrich their learning offer and the teachers curricula, offering to the students something very peculiar in terms of knowledge and skills; also the transition from a school level to the higher one will become something innovative and characterizing for the involved high schools. Research centres will empower their ability to effectively train the youngsters about some important environmental and natural matters. Main target groups, especially other teachers and students, also from lower school levels, will obtain materials and suggestions to tackle the topic at a first level. The impact on local authorities, that are a relevant stakeholder for the project, will be first of all in terms of education of the population to the importance of the local river, then in terms of stronger and more frequent relationships with the local high schools and, last but not least, the local bodies will have positive impact in the care of the territory, thanks to the improved active citizenship of teenagers. At local and regional level, the project aims at building alliances for the protection and enhancement of the rivers among school institutions, teachers, students, families, associations, citizens and local authorities. At national and international level, the desired impact is to spread in other high schools the developed methodology, in order to consider the river as a learning space and give the kick start to many positive changes.

Objectives

OBJECTIVES The project had three specific objectives linked to the priorities of the Erasmus+: 1) Improve the educational transition based on increasing the level of key competences through the participation of students in the search for alternatives to get better river management (priority 1). 2) Support the professional development of teachers through pedagogical resources based on the learning opportunities offered by rivers (priority 2). 3) Establish effective partnerships between schools and stakeholders (municipalities, companies, NGOs ...) that promote educational innovation and the recovery of natural spaces.

Background

Education and training was a key aspect (and still is) of the 2020 Europe Strategy which aims to promote knowledge, quality educatin, social cohesion, active citizenship and equity. This project was based in the need of the support in the educational transition and the support of teachers in implementing innovative pedagogies to promote the transition and peer to peer learning, mitigating school leaving. The base was to use a model in which students take part in promoting the continuation of education in other stages, helping with the transition from one level to the next. For doing this, several aspects had to be taken into account such as: preparation, readjustment to the new situation, it also entails a change of environment and a certain rupture; transformations and adaptation processes with consequences in the future (demand for autonomy of learning, self-control in the classroom, greater responsibility, etc.). Moreover, it was necessary to focus on teachers needs and resources, to train them on how it can be done, to support them and accompany them and the students in the process. Finally, it was important to focus on the different education systems, making sure the project could be integrated in several countries.
