Project summary

Health problems or the lack of suitable learning activities are obstacles that can make participation in learning difficult for adults - as highlighted by the Eurydice study ‘Adult Education and Training in Europe: Widening Access to Learning Opportunities’. These obstacles are more serious to overcome for vulnerable adult victims of violence, whose physical and psychological condition harms their learning process in many ways, leading them to lose interest in education, school dropping out and lack of any motivation in learning and skilling up themselves. The current migration crisis has, in fact, increased the number of migrants and refugees who are supported by educational and care centres for victims of violence. A pertinent methodology must be applied in their education compared, for example, to the ones applied to victims of violence with mental health problems. Supporting each category with the most appropriate methodology is therefore essential to enhance their motivation, participation and inclusion in education and society, and to reduce disparities in adult education. The project has targeted three main objetives: O1: Improve the professional competencies to revamp the learning and professional skills of adult learners victims of violence. Project activity addressing the relevant educational need: Producing a training course for educators aimed at targeting successful learning pathways for adult learners victims of violence and increasing their motivation and participation in the learning environment and society. O2: Make educational centres more inclusive and efficient to cope with the different needs of adult victims of violence belonging to vulnerable groups: persons with disabilities or with challenging behaviour, mental health patients, migrants and refugees, addressing the relevant educational need: development of a cross-operational protocol and educational handbook collecting best practices and efficient methodologies identified during the project. Particular attention to the inclusive needs of migrants and refugees who suffered violence in their own Countries. O3: Establish effective guidelines to supervise the learning progress and social reinsertion of adult learners victims of past violence. Three intellectual products have been produced in the context of the VICTORIA project. All of them are available in the three languages of the project (Italian, Spanish and Portuguese) plus the versions in English which has been also added to the final results. The three products produced are the following: - IO1: Protocol with harmonized standards for the educational support of adult persons victims of violence - IO2: Training course to improve the competencies of adult teachers, social educators and other carers supporting adult victims of violence - IO4: Guidelines to track and assess the learning progress and social reinsertion of adult victims of violence. More than 200 organizations have been informed and have access to the results, and theses organizations have heterogeneous nature: mental health dispositives, refugees centers, organizations working with people with disabilities. The concrete products can be downloaded in the webpage victoriaproject.net and the e-learning course (IO2) is also available online in the same webpage.
