Nowadays, society is moving towards new forms of education, both formal and non-formal, based on continuous training courses on different subjects, mainly in Blended-Learning environments. For this purpose, the use of Advance Learning Technologies resources is proving to be very effective. Within this framework, the SmartArt project has designed a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) for learning Art History content. This learning space has included a self-regulated learning design using hypermedia resources and the figure of an avatar that accompanies the learner in the learning process. The project partners were the University of Burgos (project coordinator), Universidad do Minho (Portugal), the University of Oviedo and the University of Valladolid in Spain, the technological SME Bjäland and the knowledge dissemination SME Paragon (Malta). In the SmartArt project only, the development of the intellectual product O1 was funded. Self-regulated learning in SmartArt which is available in open access on the project website https://bit.ly/3VbIR7g in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Although the intellectual product O2 was not funded, it was also developed. The results are available at SmartArt Transfer Manual, Spanish (https://bit.ly/3VvT4fd) and English (https://bit.ly/3SUJocd). Methodological guidelines for customising the VLE to learners' patterns, Spanish (https://bit.ly/3Thv1yF) and English (https://bit.ly/3Thv1yF). Adult learning profiles in the VLE. Educational materials for the Arts adapted to the patterns of learners in Spanish and English. The pattern analysis can be contrasted in the following publications (https://bit.ly/3rdbhB2). Furthermore, several additional intellectual enrichment products have been developed: Classical Sculpture (https://bit.ly/3MrlP8r) and Renaissance (https://bit.ly/3EwwLQa), Adaptation of the materials to Early Childhood and Primary Education teaching in Spanish (https://bit.ly/3g1WLJj) and English (https://bit.ly/3SYw1b1) and application of the teaching-learning methodology to the disciplines of: Neuropsychology, Spanish (https://bit.ly/3rM5ku9) and English (https://bit.ly/3Cp23G7); STEM Spanish (https://bit.ly/3TfQUOP) and English (https://bit.ly/3TeyG08). Similarly, two learning activities aimed at training teachers and students in the use of this methodology were developed, although only the one related to teacher training was funded. All sessions are recorded and can be consulted on the project website in the results section under "Learning activities" https://bit.ly/3VbIR7g. Also, 3 multiplier events (Spain, Portugal and Malta) were carried out in which 162 people participated. Similarly, the VLE of the Project has been used by 477 people.
The SmartArt’s main objective has been to design an intelligent training environment in the discipline of Art History that integrates a design of self-regulated learning using hypermedia resources in which a continuous systematic evaluation of the learning process is included. This objective has been achieved with the elaboration of two intellectual outputs and one learning activity (LA): O1. Self-regulated learning in SmartArt (FL, b-Learning, Intelligent Tutoring Systems and serious games), implemented in a VLE. Added to that, the partnership decided to implement enrichments. The extra results available are an approach to themes of European cultural heritage (the origin of monasteries, classical sculpture and the Renaissance). Adaptation of the materials created to teachings of Early Childhood and Primary Education and application of the teaching-learning methodology to the disciplines of Neuropsychology for university students and STEM for ES students. O2. Methodological guidelines to personalize VLE to student's patterns. A LA for teachers may learn how to use the O1 and how to adapt their VLE according to their students’ profile (O2). The results of which can be consulted at https://bit.ly/3VbIR7g and the Results Platform.
SmartArt responds to the priority of open education and innovative practices in a digital area because it delivers innovative methods for teaching arts supporting educators and adult students to use digital technologies in a creative and efficient way. The project aroused the need for online non-formal training that facilitates the learning of students of different ages, making them functional, efficient in the achievement of the learning outcomes, and encouraging students’ interest and increasing their motivation. In this framework, the SmartArt project aims to design an intelligent training environment in the discipline of Art History that integrates a design of self-regulated learning using hypermedia resources in which a continuous systematic evaluation of the learning process is included. The European added value of this proposal lies in the promotion of life-long learning and the European added values and belonging feeling because of the content of the tools proposed, as well as facilitating the mobility of partners to go in deep in the promotion of digital innovative environments to learning arts and other disciplines.
