BreizhEuskadi is a two-year-long project between IES LAUAIZETA BHI and L.P.O. Pierre MENDES FRANCE. Lauaizeta is a Compulsory Secondary Education school with "D" linguistic model, that is education through the medium of Basque Language whose priority is to promote Basque language, culture and identity. It is an inclusive school that avoids discrimination for cultural/economic reasons. Pierre Mendes is a High School that also provides Vocational Training and they are trying to create boundaries between both Education Systems. Although Breton culture is not as vivid as the Basque one on a regular basis, they are taking steps to recover it and they have started teaching Breton language in Primary Education. The main objective is to compare both minority languages and Historic Heritage in order to: - help Basque students value the steps taken to recover our language, culture and identity at a difficult age when they rebel against any established matters, - promote among Bretons a need to recover their roots and to consider their culture as their identity and value it as they should. All upper-Secondary students will take part (14-16 year olds) and those in Seconde and first year of Vocational Trainning (15-17 year olds). About 200 students in each school will use eTwinning platform to get acquainted to one another, communicate, find out, share, cooperate and collaborate. 14 students will have the opportunity to travel. They will have some extra activities (before, during and after mobilities): - collect data, find out and record videos, - collaborate in activities to find a host, - edit videos and report the experience to all school members. There are lots of activities to be able to reach our goals. We are speaking about motivating activities with an innovative approach. Thus, students will collaborate to create television programmes to find out about different aspects of minority languages through correspondants abroad, share their Historic Heritage in such programmes as "Basques/Bretons in the world", cook and try traditional dishes in the partner country in "Telemasterchef", enjoy mithology in Broceliande woods and Baztan valley, learn unkown traditional dances, old sports (Astérix and Obélix will meet Basque stone lifting), old musical instruments... During the first year, we will stick to the minority language and our near environment. We will take part in several events in favour of the Basque Language (Korrika, Euskaraldia) and in favour of Breton Culture (Sevenadur, Redadeg) and we will visit the Breton museum. We will discover places in our surroundings through literature. In the second year, we will cover all the region; from the oldest mithology to modern art with Chillida or Guggeheim museum, Street Art or Contemporart Art in Rennes. Literature will continue to help us discover new sceneries. We will share everything in Twinspace and will use all tools in the platform to communicate as well as other social networks. Each student will have his/her profile and we will use Pages to organize content. Students will develop creativity and critical thinking, interiorize communicative strategies, improve personal relationships through cooperation and collaboration, improve self-steem by using rubrics for self-evaluation, conflict solving, enterpreneurship, they will learn to be and to learn. Motivation and the use of TICs will improve. Teachers will improve their interpersonal relationships through the implemention of interdisciplinary and international activities. They will think over their practice to ellaborate rubrics and questionnaires. Relationships with families will take a step forward. All this work will lead us to an in-depth analysis about the different aspects of the project. The most successful activities will be identified and incorporated into the subject syllabuses. We hope to continue our collaboration with the partner in eTwinning projects which will enable us to improve the most succesful activities and invite members from other cultures, knowing that we count on a reliable partner to ensure that the project will meet its goal.
BreizhEuskadi was a two-year-long project turned into 3 years due to covid between IES LAUAIZETA BHI and L.P.O. The main objective has been to compare both minority languages and Historic Heritage in order to: - help Basque students value the steps taken to recover our language, culture and identity at a difficult age when they rebel against any established matters, - promote among Bretons a need to recover their roots and to consider their culture as their identity and value it as they should. All upper-Secondary students have taken part (14-16 year olds) and those in Seconde and first year of Vocational Trainning (15-17 year olds). Over 250 students in each school have used eTwinning platform (3 projects, one per year) to get acquainted to one another, communicate, find out, share, cooperate and collaborate. 14 students were meant to have the opportunity to travel to the partner country, but the pandemic made this impossible during the first 2 years. Therefore, an extension of one year was requested: once again, an outbreak of Omicron in January made the mobility of French students impossible. 24 Basque students had the opportunity to travel to Brittany for 7 days. They have; - participated in and taught workshops on minority languages and traditional dances, - collaborated in the activities proposed by the host, such as a gymkhana to discover the historical heritage and cultural visits, - edited a video "Basques around the world", drew their conclusions and shared them with the educational community. The project has involved a large number of activities to achieve the objectives. The students have collaborated to create the project logo as well as TV programs such as "Equipo de Investigación", "Vascos por el mundo" or "Telemasterchef", have edited videos about heritage and local historical events, have created an eBook about minority languages, have participated in workshops on traditional sports, music, literature, have been able to create a legend merging mythological elements of both cultures, have worked on stereotypes, have shared the most important celebrations of our culture, initiatives in favor of minority languages, etc. Three eTwinning projects have been created, one per course; BREIZHEUSKADI, Breizheuskadi 20-21 and Breizheuskadi 21-22. All the pages are public, except those of the presentations that contain personal data. All the products created are hosted on the pages of these projects. Each project has a calendar with the forecast of activities on the first page. To facilitate follow-up, activity pages have been created following the planning of the calendar on page 1. Each project ends with the final product created jointly after the collaboration of thats chool yeat. The students have developed their creativity and critical thinking, have internalized communication strategies, have improved their personal relationships through cooperation and collaboration, have improved their self-esteem through the use of rubrics for self-evaluation, have learned methods for conflict resolution, have been encouraged to be and learn. They have also improved their motivation and the use of ICTs. Teachers from different departments and countries have collaborated in interdisciplinary and international activities improving their interpersonal relationships and reviewing and comparing programs and contents to achieve the project's objectives. The organization, cancellation and celebration of mobilities has brought families closer to the center, improving the relationship. All this work has culminated in a deep reflection on the different aspects of the project. It has brought the Bretons closer to their own language and culture, awakening their interest. The astonishment of French teachers and students for the fact that we speak and live in Basque has provoked in the Basque students a feeling of pride and satisfaction.
